onsillectomyisoneofthecommonlyperformedsurgicalproceduresthatmostlyperformedduringchildhoodandadolescence.Thoughit'ssometimesdoneduringadulthoodaswell.Ithasmanyindicationssuchasfrequentinflammation,systemicmanifestationsandobstructivesleepapnea.
Thecommonestadverseoutcomeoftonsillectomyisthepainwhichrangesfrommildtoagonizingtroublesomeaffectingearlynutritionandqualityoflifeespeciallyintheearlypost-operativeperiod,yetitmaylastforlongduration.
Thepainisassociatedwithstressresponseintheformofsympathoadrenalstimulationwithresultanthemodynamicchangessuchastachycardia,hypertensionandhormonalchangesthatmaycausepotentialharmtothepatientespeciallywithcoexistingdiseases.
