Abstract
Few persons realize that there are far more kinds of parasitic than non-parasitic organisms in the world. Even if we exclude the viruses and rickettsias, which are all parasitic, and the many kinds of parasitic bacteria and fungi, the parasites are the majority. Humans can be infected with more than a hundred species of amoebas, flagellates, ciliates, worms, lice, fleas, ticks, and mites (Roberts and Janovy, 1996). This large population of parasites can infect almost any type of tissue m the
human body.
Parasitic chest diseases can incnmmate a large variety of parasites, inhabiting, passing through, and/or even sens1ttzmg the human respiratory system. These parasites include various forms of protozoa, helminthes, and arthropods. Their effects are also widely variable ranging from ·subclinical, or mild reaction, up to severe inflammatory, or allergic reactions leading to death.
Parasitic pulmonary diseases have gained much and ever growing interest in the recent years for the great association of them, and the severity of their effects with the immune deficiency conditions, specially Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The present work deals with the subject of parasitic respiratory diseases in Sohag Governorate, which is a part of Upper Et,:rypt; an area considered almost virgin in the field of parasitic screening.
