Manal shawky Hussein Sayed Ahmed;

Abstract

Plantar fasciitis is· a common cause of heel pain in athelets as well as those not involved in sports.
It's caused by overload to the plantar fascia at its origin in the calcaneus, resulting in microtears in the fascia near or at the fascia-bone interface.
Plantar fasciitis has been previously referred to as stone bruise, subcalcaneal pain syndrome, calcaneodynia, calcaneal periostitis or medial arch sprain.
Plantar fasciitis occurs primarily between 40-60 years of age. A gradual onset of pain in the plantar area of the heel usually occurs, but it may occur following trauma or from overuse after activities such as in atheletics, prolonged walking, wearing of improper shoes or striking the heel with some Forcel.

The pain characteristically occurs in the morning upon arising from bed. It's most severe for the first few steps, after an initial improvement , the pain may get worse later in the day, especially after prolonged standing or walking. The pain is burning, aching and occasionally lancinating.
Palpation typically revealed tenderness anteromediaily on the medial calcaneal tubercle at the origin of plantar fascia
