A WIDE BAND FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER FOR UMTS
Mohammad Mamdouh Abdrabelnaby;
Abstract
During the last few decades, mobile communication has totally changed our lives by making it as simple as ever to connect people. Through different generations of develop ment, cellular communication have offered continuous improvement in not only quality, capacity, and reliability but also the introduction of more and more features like multime dia services by sending data with higher rates allowing for more advanced applications as video calling, TV broabcasting, and web browsing.
This dissertation will discuss the design of a wide band frequency synthesizer satisfying the specifications required by the UMTS developed by the third generation partnership program 3GPP. With an output frequency range from 1.7GHz to 2.2GHz, this synthesizer is able to cover most of the bands described by the 3GPP.
A new technique is developed to filter out the sigma delta quantization noise from the synthesizer output and hence make it possible to use wider PLL bandwidth making the loop faster to achieve the required stringent switching speed.
