Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the geothermal sustainability of AEB-3E reservoir in Alqasr Field, Western Desert, Egypt.
This study used the analysis of different logs for calculating the petrophysical parameters and constructing the mineralogical model for the reservoir, the results were used for estimating the geothermal parameters of the reservoir. The integration of petrophysical analysis and geothermal analysis help for designing a power plant unit which use the produced hot water from these wells.
The available well logging data include (Composite logs, Formation Density Compensated logs, Borehole Compensated Sonic logs, Neutron Compensated logs, Resistivity logs, Gamma Ray logs and Mud logs).

Frist, the study shows the geological setting of the study area, that is a three way dip closure. Three wells were drilled at the top of the structure (Qasr-4, Qasr-40 and Qasr-31) and two wells were drilled in the down dip direction.

The main reservoir parameters (Porosity, Clay Volume and Water Saturation) were calculated from logging data using Tech-Log 64 2013.3 software.
(Lithological identification is achieved through cross-plots between ρb, ØN and ∆t to detect matrix density (ρma) and matrix interval transit time (Δtma). These charts show that sandstone and shale represent the main components in AEB-3E reservoir.
The estimated lithologic was used composition for calculating the geothermal parameters (Thermal conductivity, Heat flow and Geothermal gradient of the studied reservoir. Gamma Ray log was used for calculating the radiogenic heat production of the reservoir.
After applying the different temperature corrections (Harrison, Khehl and Forester) for (BHT) Bottom Hole Temperature values, the vertical (Temperature-Depth) charts of all wells were constructed. These charts help to define the suitable correction for the area.
Based on the results the suitable design for the power plant was proposed.
