EVALUATION OF THE ROLE OF VITRECTOMY ON THE COURSE OF BEHCET'S UVEITIS
Mohamed Ali Marzouk;
Abstract
Behcet's disease is the most common cause for panuveitis in Ef,'YPt. One eye in 30 patients, the worse as regards vision and inflammatory manifestations was selected to undergo pars plana vitrectomy. The other eye served as a control.
A clinical worsening occurred in the immediate post-operative period due
to surgical effect, definite stabilisation at 2 months post-operative, the attacks still occur but they are milder and easier to control. The non operative eyes showed rapid improvment due to proper treatment with steroids and immunosuppressor. A drop in the mean best corrected visual acuity occurred in the 3rd to 5th months post-operative, the attacks were more frequent, more severe, lower to subside and more difficult to control.
