Assessment Of Neonatal Convulsions In Intensive Care Units

Jihan El-Sayed Amer Gazia;

Abstract

Neonatal seizures are still a major problem in neonatal intensive care units and reflect a broad spectrum of insults, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy being a major contributor in full term neonates. Early detection and management of these convulsions is of utmost importance to lessen mortality and morbidity. Both cranial ultrasound and electroencephalography (EEG) are of value in reaching the etiology and prognosis, with the EEG taking the upper hand, as it was found to correlate well with the onset, frequency and outcome of seizures.
