THE HAEMOSTATIC CHANGES INDUCED BY CHRONIC NON VALVULAR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION AND THEIR ROLES IN ISCHEMIC STROKE

Abstract


This study comprised thirty patients, of them twenty patients were
suffering fTom cardiac dysaiThythmia' in the form of chronic non valvular
atrial fibrillation and the rest of them were suffering from ischemic stroke with sinus rhythm.
Patients with chronic NVAF was divided into two groups each of ten patients, depending on whether these patients are associated with ischemic stroke or not.
The thirty patients age were from forty five to sixty five years old, they were nineteen males and eleven females. Control individuals were also selected with age and sex matched parallel to that of patients groups.
Both patients and controls were subjected to the following investigations:
A) Laboratory investigations:
I. J-:laemostatic tests including:
1- Platelet count.
2- Bleeding time.
3- INR
4- APTT.
5- Fibrinogen.
6- vWF.
7- D-dimer.
II. Routine investigations (used as a method of exclusion) :
1- Blood glucose level.
2- Serum creatinine.
