URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN • MALNOURISHED INFANTS AND CHILDREN

Abstract
This study included 60 cases suffering from PEM compared with 40 healthy infants and children used as controls.
The age of both cases and controls ranging from 3 months
- 30 months.
60 cases were classified into 35 males and 25 females.
This study showed 10 cases of underweight (16.6%), 15
Kw. (24.9%), 25 marasmus (41.5%) and 10 marasmic Kw. (16.6%). The cases were subjected to:
• Microscopic examination of urine for pus cells.
• Bacterial count.
• Dip stick test:
- Nitrite test. - Leukocyte esterase test.
• Culture and sensitivity.
20 cases of60 cases show:
• > 10 leukocyte/mm3 by microscopic examination of urine specimen.
• Prevalence of U.T.L was 33.33%. Bacterial count >100,000
CFU/ml.
