LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY: TO DRAIN OR NOT TO DRAIN
SHERIF RAAFAT SELIM;
Abstract
Since laparoscopic cholecystectomy was introduced as an alternative to the conventional removal of the gall bladder in 1989, the issue of routine drainage needed re-evaluation.
The study was conducted on 30 patients with symptomatic chronic calcular cholecystitis, divided into two groups: group A with drain "I 5 patients" and group B with no drain "IS patients".
The study proved that there was no difference between group A (with drain) and group B (without drain) regarding postoperative abdominal pain or shoulder pain. Also, there was no difference regarding postoperative wound infection, fever, tachycardia or return to home.
