Abstract
Writing this thesis has-been a genuine-pleasure. My debts are many. Foremost, I am indebted to black ex-slaves and August Wilson whose works have enriched and expanded my knowledge of a wealthy and invaluable history that scholars of literature_and history should be aware of.
In fact, this study came true thanks to the efforts of my supervisors Dr. Azza El-Kholy

and Dr. SaharHammouda. Dr. Azza's support and guidance has made my work possible. She has borne up with me all the difficulties and hardships with marvelous patience and real dedication. I'd like to thank Dr. Sahar for her encouragement and the efforts she made to bring this work to life.
