Abstract

This study was done to evaluate and compare visual outcome, safety and predictability of retropupillary implantation iris-claw intraocular lens (verisyse) versus scleral fixated intraocular lens in patients without adequate anterior or posterior capsular support.
20 eyes were included in this study. Patients were divided into 2 groups. Group 1: 10 eyes underwent implantation of scleral fixated intraocular lenses( SF group), Group 2: 10 eyes underwent retropupillary implantation of iris –claw intraocular lenses (retropupillary verisyse) ( RPV group).
Patients with corneal opacities, glaucoma, uveitis and retinal diseases were excluded from the study.
The endpoints for comparison were: BCVA, refraction, IOP, anterior and posterior segment examination, contrast sensitivity and endothelial corneal cell count by specular microscopy.

The results of the 2 groups were comparable with no statistically significant difference between both as regard final best corrected visual acuity, refraction, contrast sensitivity, IOP, endothelial cell count and post- operative complications.
