ECOLOGICAL STUDIES ON CERTAIN INSECT PESTS ATTACKING SUGARBEET CROP IN FAYOUM GOVERNORATE

Abstract


Sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.) crop is acqmnng an increasing importance in Egypt. The present work includes field and laboratory investigation for some major insect pests in sugarbeet crop in Fayoum Governorate during two successive seasons 199711998 & 1998/1999, with the aim of clarifying the following points:

1. Survey the insect species attacking sugarbeet crop at Fayoum

Governorate during two seasons.

2. Population fluctuation of most important insect pests during two seasons and Effect of some weather factors on the population of insect pest.
3. Relationship between plant age and insect population of A.fabae

and L. junci.

4. Susceptibility of five sugarbeet varieties namely; Farida, Top, Pamela, Radpoly and Samba to infestation with insect pests.
5. Biological studies on the beet weevil, Lixus junci Bob.

6. Host preference of sugarbeet weevil, L. junci, these plant hosts were; beet sugarbeet, spinach, spinyemex and dock under laboratory conditions.
