Correlative Study of Detrusor Wall Thickness by Trans abdominal Ultrasound to its Contractile Power by Pressure Flow Studies in Men with BPH
George Zakaria Sabry Hanna;
Abstract
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
B
.P.H is an age growing problem to men above 50 years. There are quite a few bothersome symptoms of B.P.H that are collectively called LUTS. It is composed of different entities ranging between storage-voiding symptoms.
Many investigations have been invented to describe & quantify the LUTS. Among them ultrasonography, uroflowmetry & pressure flow study. PFS is the gold standard investigation of the detrusor contractility. Although many drawbacks face the PFS.
New investigations are being developed each day to replace PFS, One of them is DWT. Which have been used in many studies to replace the PFS as a evaluator of BOO & DO.
In this thesis we studied the correlation of DWT measurements to detrusor contractility measured by PFS, in order to detect a constant relation.
Detrusor wall thickness is a theoretically rational and clinically practical tool to evaluate detrusor contractility & Bladder outlet obstruction in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia & lower urinary tract symptoms.
Further studies with larger patient numbers more selective LUTS criteria to identify & quantify the constant of the relationship between DWT & detrusor contractility.
New modalities in PFS (penile cuff &external condom) & ultrasonography (radiofrequency strain measurement) are being used to measure detrusor contractility noninvasively; DWT can become one of them.
