ATRIAL NATRIURETIC PEPTIDE IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF EDEMA BEFORE AND AFTER THERAPY

Abstract


The aim of the present study is to assess the plasma ANP levels in edematous patients (congestive heart failure, renal and cirrhotic patients ) before and after furosemide therapy.
Also to study the relationship between the levels of ANP and body weight, blood pressure, urinary sodium excretion, serum albumin, total serum proteins, and liver and kidney functions.
Sixty one edematous patients of different etiologies and twenty six healthy subjects (control group) were included in the present study. Patients were subdivided into three groups:
Group I included 20 patients with congestive heart failure with edema of both lower limbs (LL).
Group II included 20 patients with renal edema .


Group lll included 21 cirrhotic patients with edema both LL and ascites. After careful history taking and thorough clinical examination, all included subjects were subjected to the following :
Kidney fi.mction tests (blood urea and serwn creatinine).


Liver fi.mction tests (AST, ALT, ALKph, prothrombin time and concentration and serum bilirubin).
