Abstract


Lymphoedema is a condition defined as a swelling of a part of the body caused by accumulation of interstitial fluid secondary to malfonnation or malfunction of the lymphatic system. Consequently,lymphoedema is classified into two major forms:
1I The D!'lmarv lYmphoedema which is due to malfonned lymphatic

pathways. and discribed according age as congenital, praecox and tarda. Furthermore primary lymphoedema is classified according to the lymphographic features into:
a) Hypoplasitc, b) Hyperplastic.
c) True lymphatic aplasia.

21 Seconci!!!'V tympho!d!ma. It iS the commonest fonn of lymphoedema, occunng due to a variety of aetiOioiJical factors.
