Simultaneous Antegrade and Retrograde Endourological Approach for Urinary Tract Stones
Amr Mohamed Tallat Azzam;
Abstract
ccording to our opinion and experience, Simultaneous retrograde and antegrade endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery in modified supine lithotomy positions offer significant progress in the endoscopic management of urolithiasis. In comparison to prone position the operative time has been significantly reduced, and overall results are equivalent with no increase in complications.
The mean operative time was significantly different between the supine and prone positions (70.87 and 104.7 minutes, respectively) ( p < 0.001), which was attributed to the lack of repositioning of patients into the prone position, a single sterile draping and the dependent position of the Amplatz sheath allowing small fragments to pass spontaneously.
The lack of repositioning of patients not only saves time but also represent other important advantages. It saves the anaesthetized patient from iatrogenic injury and trauma
