Effect Of The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration And a Concentration Below It Of Gentamicin And Ampicillin On Ultrastructure Of E-coli By Electron Microscope

Moushira Ali Badawy;

Abstract

Escherichia coli 1s a member of the family

. Enterobacteriaceae which are gram-negative straight rods. They are

•distributed world wide in soil, water and animals. •

Its natural habitat is in the intestinal tract of man and animal. It's the commenst cause of urinary tract infections. Other diseases caused by E-coli pathogen are hospital acquired infections; especially post operative wound infections, diarrheal diseases, pneumonia, meningitis, septicemia and bed sores.
So, . it was essential to introduce antimicrobial agents to overcome the drastic p'roblems of pathogenic diseases. However the abuse of these antibiotics and suboptimal therapy were the main

causes of developing resistance with all its hazardous problems.

In conclusion; determination ofMICs of antimicrobics and antibiotic susceptibility testing, became essential elements when resistance develops.
The aim of this work was to study the effect ofMIC and a dose below MIC of both gentamicin and ampicillin antibiotics on E-coli to evaluate the effect of improper treatment of these drugs on ultrastructural changes on E-coli by electron microscope.
