The Role of Chlamydia Trachomatis in The First Trimisteric Abortion

Abstract


The aim of the present study IS to evaluate the role of Chlamydia trachomatis infection as a cause of 1" trimester abortion.


Chlamydia trachomatis IS the most common sexually transmitted organism. Chlamydia trachoma/is. may be further differentiated on serologic basis into 15 serotyps. Serotype D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K are rec.ponsible for sexually transmitted chlamydia! disease and inclusion conjunctivitis.


Endocervicitis IS the most common site of infection. It causes mucupurlent cervicitis (MPC). One third of patients have clinical evidence of infection, while two third have no symptoms or signs. Chlamydia trachomatis grows only in squamo-columnar cells and so, only within transitional zone of cervix and endocervix, not in vagina nor ectocervix.


The • infected cerv1x appearance ranges from normal clinically to severe eroded with hypertrophic erosion and friable oedematous cervix with mucopurlent discharge.
