HUMAN C RYPTOSPORIDIOSIS IN DIFFERENT GROUPS OF IMMUNOSUPPRESSED PERSONS
Gehan Salah Sadek;
Abstract
Crypt osporidium , an intestinal protozoan par.asite is a well-known cause of diarrhoea in animals but has been recognized only recently as a cause of human disease. It has been reported in both immunocompetent and immuno- suppressed patients and it is now considered as one of the most important opportunistic infective agents in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Information on the prevalence and significance of Cryptosporidium as an aetiologic agent of human enteric disease in developing countries is still inadequate. Moreover, the most feasible and sensitive method of diagnosis of Cryptosporidium in stool as well as the most effective chemotherapeutic agents have not yet established.
