Maged Morcos Shoukry;

Abstract

Since the 1950s, pediatric cardiopulmonary by pass (CPB) has evolved from a high-risk technology with fifty percent mortality to a safe and effective procedure performed at many hospitals throughout the world. The extracorporeal circulation consists of oxygenators, pumps, tubings, fitters, prime solutions. Circulatory assist devices play a crucial role in supporting the pediatric patients. The most common used circulatory assist devices are the extracorporeal membrane oxygenators, ventricular assist devices and the intraaortic balloon pump.
