Abstract


Considering the importance of identifying sources of role ambiguity and role conflict, and coping mechanisms that contribute to effective positive change in a hospital setting to provide opportunities for nurses to more productive, it becomes necessary to develop a systematic, well organized study to investigate role conflict and role ambiguity and their relation with role stress among new baccalaureate nursing graduates and interns.


Thus, the objective of the present study was to assess perceived levels of role conflict and role ambiguity and their relationship with stress levels among new
baccalaureate nursing graduates and interns.
The study was carried out at the general and special care (critical care) units of Tanta University Hospital. The sample was consisted of two categories of nurses: the first included all nurse interns in the different inpatient units who totalled 37 nurses in the general units (medical surgical and multiple specialties), and 23 in the special care units (premature, coronary, burn and intensive care unit).
