HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION IN EGYPTIAN CHILDREN EVALUATION OF SOME DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES

Abstract


Aim of word : to test the sensitivity & specificity of the urea breath test ( UBT) for the diagnosis of H pylori in Egyptian children .
Methodology: 30 pediatric patients indicated for upper GIT enoscopy wer
tested for the presence of H.pylori infection using rapid urease test , histopathologic examination of gastric biopsy,Eiisa testing for anti- H pylori anibodies in sera and UBT .
Results :26patients (86.7% ) proved to be positive for H. plyori , the most common symptoms related to H.Pylori in fection were underweight
, understature and hemtemesis, the sensitivity of the UBT wasfound to be
92.3% and its specificity I 00%.
Conclusion : Urea breath test is good diagnostic test for H.Pyloir
infection in children, in addition its non invasive nature is good advantage
. however , its high cost restricts its widespread use in developing countries
