Abstract

The research presented in this study evaluated the Effect of impression and stone types on the marginal accuracy of cement retained implant supported prosthesis.
Two blocks of epoxy resin were constructed with two embedded implants in both of them. One was simulating the clinical situation of missing lower second premolar and the other simulating the clinical situation of missing lower second premolar and lower first molar.
Fortyimpressions (20 on each model) were taken with 2 different impression materials and pouring both using 2 different dental stones. Wax patterns for 2 PFM bridges (1 on each model) were constructed using CAD/CAM technique. The wax patterns then invested and casted producing metal frameworks. Veneering of metal frameworks was done using manual build up technique.
The bridges were temporarily cemented on their corresponding models, and vertical marginal adaptation of cemented bridges evaluated using stereomicroscope.
Data were collected from all the tests previously done according to the sample grouping in the form of tables of mean and standard deviations. The collected data were statistically analysed.
The results of this study showed that there is no significant effect of the impression materials on the vertical marginal adaptation since we pour them within 24 hours.
Regarding stone type, there is a high significance of Type V over Type IV dental stones on the vertical marginal adaptation. Type V dental stone has more marginal adaptation.
Regarding span length, there is no significant effect of span length on vertical marginal adaptation.
