''Optimum Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from flaxseed meal and Evaluation of their Biological Activities"
Engy Mohamed Abd ElAziz Akl;
Abstract
There is a worldwide demand for phenolic compounds (PC) because they exhibit several biological activities. During the conventional process of extraction, a fair amount of the phenolic compounds are lost. This work aimed at investigating several modern methods of extraction and comparing their results. Optimum results will be used to prepare a large amount of the phenolic compounds on a semi-pilot scale. These phenolic products were evaluated as to their antioxidant, antimicrobial, antitoxic, anti- cancer, and anticoagulating activities. A pre-feasibility study of the results was carried out. Flaxseed meal (FM) was prepared by defatting with n-hexane. The meal was then extracted by several extraction techniques to yield the phenolic product. The methods of extraction were mainly:
