Validation of Sexual Health Inventory for Men Questionnaire in Arabic

Abstract


The aim of the study was to translate the sexual health inventory for men questionnaire (SHIM) and to adapt an Arabic version of the (SHIM), then to test the validity and reliability of that Arabic version of the sexual health inventory for men among Egyptian population.
The original English version of the SHIM was translated into Arabic according to the back translation technique, then revised and adapted to reach a final Arabic version of the SHIM, which then was used in the study.
The study included a fifty bilingual patient with erectile dysfunction they all seeking medical advice with different age group.
According to study the low score (increased degree of erectile dysfunction) came with increase of age group especially those with risk factors diabetics, hypertensive and ischemic heart disease.
The questionnaire was administered first in Arabic then two weeks later the participants administered the questionnaire in English that’s to test the reliability.
The Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to compare the mean total scores of the original English versions of the questionnaires and their translated forms.
The Spearman correlation test was used to evaluate the agreement between participant scores on the translated and the English versions.
Cronbach alpha test used to test reliability of the translated questionnaire.((p value < or equal 0.05))
It can be concluded that the Arabic version of the SHIM is suitable, reliable, valid, specific and sensitive to clinical change in the Egyptian population.
