STABILIZATION OF THE EGYPTIAN EXPANSIVE CLAYEY SOIL USING INDUSTRIAL CARBONATE WASTE
Gehad Mohamed Hossam Abdelazim Makeen;
Abstract
Swell behavior of the expansive soils has been investigated by many researchers and different stabilization techniques have been studied over a huge body of the literature. Many Egyptian cities outside the Nile valley such as October 6, EL-Maadi, Obour, EL-Mokattam, Badr, EL-Shorouk and New Cairo have experienced active urbanization during the last thirty years including construction of infrastructures such as building foundations, roads, motorways, and railroads, which requires earthworks mainly for the construction of the base and sub-grades. Unfortunately these areas are considerably encompassing with problematic expansive clayey soils that have already imposed frequent notable damages for some of the engineering structures built on them, which resulted in heavy economic loss as well as risk for population.
