• Effect of Preservation of Posterior Versus Both Mitral Leaflets on Left Ventricular Function After Mitral Valve Replacement

Abstract
This study was conducted in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Kasr EI-Aini and Damietta Specialized •Hospitals from August 199B to December 2000.
This study involved patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease pure regurgue or double lesions. {pure stenosis was excluded) for whom mitral valve replacement was done using mechanical low profile prosthesis oriented in antianatomical position (St Jude or Carbomedics).
There were 2 groups:-
Group I {30 cases): for whom mitral valve vyas replaced with posterior leaflet preservation.
Group II (30 cases): for whom mitral valve was replaced with
preservation of both leaflets.
