Intervention Program to Cope with Psychological Problems Associated with Menstruation among Female Adolescents

Abstract


Menstruation is a unique phenomenon stick to female adolescents. The onset of menstruation is one of the most important changes occurring among the females during the adolescent years. The first menstruation (menarche) usually occurs between age of 11 and 15 years. The menarche is often horrifying and traumatic to female adolescents because it usually occurs without their knowledge about it. Anxiety, fear, confusion, and even depression are frequently reported bad experiences in related to menarche.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an intervention program for female adolescents to cope with psychological problems associated with menstruation, through assessing the psychological problems influencing premenstrual syndrome, developing psychiatric nursing intervention program for female adolescents to cope with their psychological problems, implementing the structured psychiatric nursing intervention program, and evaluating the effect of this program on coping pattern among female adolescents under research study.

The hypothesis of this study was that the psychiatric nursing intervention program will have a positive effect on adolescents` coping patterns and psychological problems associated with menstrual cycle.
