Abstract
The experiments of the present work are divided into two parts. In the first part, two types of diet are used. Diet type I is a poultry diet contains the double amount of the amino acid L. histidine thari diet type II which is animal ration. Warfarin is added to each type of diet at a concentration of 150 ppm, which is in the range of recommended concentration. Adult male and female albino rats, Rattus norvegicus albinus, were allowed to feed on these toxic baits in no-choice feeding tests for five consuctive days after 0, 2, 6, 12 and 18 months of their shelf . storage. This part includes haematological and histopathological examinations of treated and control rats after each storage period.
In the second part, adult male and female rats were allowed to feed on diet type II containing 8.5 ppm of warfarin alone or a combination of warfarin (8.5 ppm)+ L. histidine (75 ppm). Haematological and histopathological examinations of treated and control rats are also conducted.
The results can be summarized as follows:
1- Regardless the type of toxic bait and the sex of animal (in part I), the time of death occurrence is usually started on the 3'ct day and extended to the 81 day of warfarin administration. Poisoned rats exhibit carelessness; bleeding from mouth, nose and eyes. Internal examination of dead rats show haemorrhages at many organs.
