Hemodynamic and Hormonal Response to Upper and Lower Abdominal Operative Laparoscopy

SUZAN MONEIR FAHEIM NAKHLA;

Abstract

Laparoscopic surgical technique is minimally invasive technique. It has become frequently performed procedure due to the perception that it is a minor operation with excellent cosmetic appearance and promote more rapid postoperative recovery than open surgery, laparoscopy has several potential hemodynamic consequences, that may be due to pneumoperitoneum and change in patient position.

The extent of the cardiovascular changes associated with creation

of pneumoperitoneum depends on the intra-abdominal pressure attained,

volume of carbon dioxide absorbed, patient's intravascular volume,
• ventilatory technique, surgical conditions and anesthetic agents.

The objective of this study was to assess the hemodynamic changes and neuroendocrinal responses associated with upper and lower abdominallaparoscopy.

This study was carried out on 20 patients (ASA I-II). Patients were classified into two equal groups, 10 patients for each group.

Group I: Ten female patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Group II: Ten female patients undergoing elective laparoscopic hysterectomy.
