Abstract

Ultrasound is a sensitive diagnostic tool in dete.cting the cause and follow up of the cases with non-visualised or poorly visualised kidney in IVU.

The ann of this work is to asses the value, accuracy and also limitation of ultrasound examination in these cases .

We studied 30 pateints with non-visualised or poorly visualised kidney, ultrasound findings as follow :
-4 cases :Congenital anomalies (13.3%)

- 9 cases

- I 2 cases

- I case

- 4 cases

: Interinsic renal diseases (30%)

: Hydronephrotic kidney (40%)

: Peri-nephric collection of pus (3.3%)

: Renal colic (I 3.3%)

We conclude that ultrasound examination is sensetive way in cases of polycystic kidney disease of:
- lts early detection of the disease before pressure effect on the collecting system .
- Follow up the disease prot,'Tession that frequentally complicated by renal failure .

Hydronephrosis is readly demonstrated by ultrasound when the collecting system filled with fluid and parenchyma compressed and decreased in thickness . Sonot,'Taphic differantiation between cystic lesions
