Abstract


cute, chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis diseases are o the most prevalent surgical diseases in developed countries. In some patient such as diabetics or pregnant women, outcomes associated with acute, chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis may be considered worse and have high mortality rates (McGillicuddy et al., 2012).
Assessment of nurses' knowledge and practice about caring for patients undergoing cholecystectomy is essential to determine the weak and strength point to provide necessary information through nursing performance guidelines for delivering high quality of care for patients undergoing cholecystectomy.
Aim of the study:
The present study aimed at developing nurses` performance guidelines for patients undergoing cholecystectomy based on needs assessment. This aim was achieved through the following:
• Assess nurses` knowledge and practices for patients undergoing cholecystectomy.
• Develop nurses` performance guidelines for patients undergoing cholecystectomy.
