Anti-hsp60 antibody responses based on Helicobacter pylori in patient with multiple sclerosis: (ir) Relevance to disease pathogenesis In Egypt

Steven Emil Gergius;

Abstract

Many studies were interested studying the pathogenesis of MS and its relation with infection by Helicobacter pylori species and its different antigens. This study included 130 subjects divided into 2 groups: case group including 65 MS patients (42 of them are with RRMS, 22 are with SPMS and one patient with PPMS ) and 65 controls.
Levels of both anti Hp IgG and anti Hp hsp60 IgG were assesed and compared in both case and control groups.
Patients with MS showed a higher level of anti Hp hsp60 IgG than control group and the level of this antibody was especially high at patients with SPMS suggesting a possible relation between infection by Helicobacter pylori species containing this type of antigens and pathogenesis of MS in Egyptian population.
Most of the patients with high titre of anti Hp IgG were positive for anti Hp hsp60 IgG, such finding was present to lesser extent at the control group.
Correlation between various epidemiological and clinical data and levels of those antibodies showed a positive correlation with the age of the patients, duration of illness and their EDSS, also a positive relation was found between upper limb affection and level of anti Hp IgG, and inverse relation between brain stem affection symptoms and level of anti Hp hsp60 IgG.

Recommendations
 There is a need for this study to be conducted with a
larger number of participants.

 The relation between infection by Helicobacter
