Management of Cartilaginous Tumors
Yasser Assem Mahmoud Hussein;
Abstract
In this essay, we reviewed the varied clinical presentations, pathogenesis, histological findings, radiological findings and treatment of cartilaginous lesions of bone.
Cartilaginous tumors can be subdivided into several categories according to the following three criteria:
• Is the lesion benign or malignant?
• Is the lesion a pure or impure cartilaginous tumor?
• Is the epicenter of the lesion intraosseous, juxtacortical, or in the soft tissue?
We reviewed the biological and histological criteria of cartilaginous tumors.
The diagnosis of cartilaginous tumors depends primary on their detection by X-ray, CT scan or MRI. It is proved after biopsy taking from the lesion.
Surgical removal is the treatment of choice for cartilaginous tumors. The site of origin and the fact that they tend to be low
grade make amenable to limb sparing procedure using different
reconstructive modalities e.g. bone graft, custom made prosthesis;
