Study of the Problem of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis In Abbassia Chest Hospital \ during the Years 1993-1998

Abstract

The data of this study were collected from the records of microbiology laboratory in Abbassia Chest Hospital during the years 1993-1998 and revealed that total number of positive culture tested for drug susceptibility were 590. The incidence of primary drug resistance among positive culture was 145 strains out of370 tested strains with percentage

39%. The incidence of secondary drug resistance was 140 strains out of 220 tested strains with percentage 63.6%. The secondary drug resistance rates were higher than

primary drug resistance rates there was statitical significant difference P<O.OOl according to resistance to one or more drugs: the highest incidence was to one drug(23%) in contrast the lowest incidence was to 4 drugs(2%). There was statistical significant difference between resistance to one or more drugs.
