Assessment of Sensitivity of Exercise•Testing in Detection of Salvaged Myocardium after Myocardial Infarction Compared with Low• Dose Dobutamine Echocardiography
Ibrahim Abdel-Hamid Ibrahim;
Abstract
Viability of the myocardium after infarction is important to determine the management of those patients who suffered myocardial infarction.
Several methods are now used to detect the viability. This study was to detect the value of ST segment elevation • during exercise test in detection of viability.
30 patients with myocardial infarction were studied. Symptom limited exercise test was done to all patients predischarge. LDDE also was done to them as a gold standard test for viability detection and the results of both were compared.
None of the risk factors for IHD showed any significant relation with the occurrence of ST segment elevation during exercise test.
There was no relation between EF% (<40%) and the occurrence of ST-segment elevation during exercise test.
There was a statistically significant correlation between the site of presenting MI and the site of ST-segment elevation during ET (highly significant).
When correlating the results of the ET as regard ST segment elevation with the viability detected by LDDE, we found only 52% showed ST segment elevation while 97% showed viability by low dose dobutamine echocardiography. But all patients who showed ST segment elevation during ET. had viable myocardium by LDDE .
