“Study of Vitamin D and Thioredoxin Interacting Protein Levels in Diabetes Mellitus”
Doaa Fathi Mohamed Omar;
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a growing public health issue characterized by either complete deficiency of insulin secretion by β-cells as in T1DM, or peripheral insulin resistance and decompensation of the pancreatic β-cells that can no longer keep up with the increased insulin requirements as in T2 DM, resulting in hyperglycemia.
Both vit-D and TXNIP may be involved in β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance by several mechanisms.
Therefore, this study was designed to examine vit-D and TXNIP serum levels in diabetic patients of type 1 and 2, and correlate these levels with clinical parameters of DM.
In the current study:
1- We investigated the serum levels of active vit-D and TXNIP in both T1DM and T2DM patients.
2- In addition, we studied the association between both these parameters and parameters of β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance in diabetic patient
3- Meanwhile, we studied the correlations among these parameters in a trial to understand how these markers might be interacting together in pathogenesis of DM.
