Yahya Zakaria Abou El-Wafa;

Abstract

Laparoscopy was initially introduced at the beginning of the 20th century. Von Ott inspected the abdominal cavity of pregnant women in 1901 and afterwards Georg Kelling performed a procedure, called "koelioscopie", closer to the definition of modern laparoscopy. In the same year Jacobeus published his first report of what he called "Laparothorakoskopie". The spectrum of use of the laparoscope in the colorectal surgery is expanding. Operations like partial and complete colectomy, abdominoperineal resection, anterior resection, rectopexy, construction and reversal of stomas could all be done by laparoscopy. Aim:The aim of this work is to discuss the role of laparoscopy in the management of colorectal diseases.The use of laparoscopy in colorectal diseases is undergoing continuous evolution. The use of SILS is increasing nowadays and the use of NOTES is under trial in various institutes around the world.
Keywords:Laparoscopy, Laparothorakoskopie, rectopexy.
