lMPACT OF SOME METABOLIC AND HAEMODYNAMIC YARIABLES ON THE CARDIAC MUSCLE IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

Introduction and aim of the study:

DM has been recognized as independent risk factor for several forms ofCVD, cardiomyopathy and CHF (Claude et al., 1999).

The combination of microalbuminuria and hyperinsul­

inemia increased the risk of CV death by eight fold in a large .. cohort of subjects even without diabetes (Mcfarlen et al., 2001).

This study was undertaken

I-To assess the impact of type 2 DM on cardiac structure and function by Doppler Echocerdiograpy.

2-To evaluate the relationships of urinary albumin excretion and fasting serum insulin to these effects.

3-To determine whether these effects are independent of glycemic statue, age, sex, body size and blood pressure.

The present study included 63 patients"with type 2 DM their mean age was 47 years, 41 of them were males and 22 were females and treated with oral hypoglycemic tablets.
