Abstract

Aim of The Present Work:

The literature reviews revealed that little attention has been paid to the synthesis of cyanine dyes incorporating hetero cyanine betaine moieties and thus publications on such dyes are lackling. However there is a voluminous work regarding the influence of quaternary reagents on the dyes in general, but those of heterocyclic betaine as new quaternary reagents in particular represent the deficiencies in the total picture of cyanine dye publication. It is interesting to attempt and throw some light on such influence. Thus, the purpose of the present investigation was to compare and evaluate the synthesis, spectral behaviour and acid-base properties of some corresponded cyanine dye covering different types. Thus, because of their special properties, the cyaines (methines) as a class of organic compounds are interested not only for the chemist , but also for numerous other scientists working in the field of biology, medical science, technology and physics. The introductory, Sec (A), Chapter (1) of this thesis throw some light upon their specific characterisation and applications. In this respect, the formation of benz (naphth) pyrrolo (furano) heterocyclic moieties as quaternary reagents of pyridine, y picoline, quinoline) and furano (pyrano/oxazino) moieties to form the corresponding heterocyclic betaines ylide system may be of special interest. It was found that such system offer a chance for the obtaining of acid chromic heterocyclic betaines acting as "apocyanine like" as they have got the characterisation of such dyes in acidic media.
