Abstract
The aime of this work is to. study the possiple association between
H.Pylori infection and irritable bowel syndrome .
To achieve this target the study was conducted on 20 patients with irritable bowel syndrome wih no underlying obvious cause. The selected
patients were compared to 10 controls of normal persons matched by age
.'.
and gender. The selcted subjects were grouped into 2 groups accordig to history, examination, routine and specific investigations.

1-Full and detailed History . ; '
2-Complete physical examination
3-Routine investigations including
*Complete urine and stool analysis
' ' 1.
*Complete blood picture.
*Renal function tests [serum urea, serum creatinine and uric acid].
*Liver function tests [Alanine transaminase (ALT), Aspartate transaminase (AST) and bilirubin].
4-Radiological study
5-Specific investigations:
(a)Urea breath test: for diagnosis ofHelicob cter Pyiori infection. (b)'3C-Sodium acetate breath test: to verify gastric emptying
This study showed that the incidence. of H Pylori positive cases was significantly higher in group 1 (irritable bowel syndrome patients. ) (80%) than in group 2(control group) (50%) .
