A Study of the Prophylactic Role of Platelet Antiaggregants II on the Frequency and Severity of Migrainous Attacks As Well As Stroke in Migraineurs

Abstract


Migraine is a familial disorder, characterized by recurrent attacks of headache, widely variable in intensity, frequency and duration. The attacks are commonly unilateral and often preceded by aura.


The aim of this work was to study the prophylatic role• of platelets antiaggregants on frequency and severity of migrainous attacks as well as stroke in migraineurs.


This studv included 60 patients with migraine, 16 patients (26.6%) of them suffered from migraine with aura and 44 patients (73.4%) suffered from migraine without aura.


All patients were selected from those attending the neurology outpatient clinic of Alexandria University Hospital.


Diagnosis was based on the criteria presented by the International

Headache Socity (IHS).



All patients were subjected to the following:

1. Full history and thorough medical and neurological examination.

2. Laboratory investigations including:

• CBC, ESR, fasting blood sugar, liver and kidney profile, serum triglycerides, x-ray sinuses.
