Properties of E. coli strains isolated from septicaemic rabbits and chickens
Azza Ali Hussin El- Tabiy;
Abstract
It has been known for the considerable time that E. coli, while being a normal inhabitant of the intestinal tract can also be
.. associated with a variety of pathological condition in weaning rabbits and chickens. Therefore the present studies was planned to
galll more explicit information on the occurence and bacteriological properties of E. coli recovering from septicaemic rabbits and chickens.
A total number of 150 of each of weaning rabbits (3-4 weeks) of age and chickens from 1-2 month were examined, they collected from different farms in Port- Said governorate showing clinical signs of colisepticaemia. Collected samples were taken from intestine, liver, heart blood and spleen. A total number of 40 apparently healthy rabbits and chickens 20 of each were examined as controL All samples subjected to bacteriological examination.
Five hundreds and fifty three (94. 7%) isolates of E. coli out of
150 diseased rabbits Diseased chickens recorded relatively low number of isolates in comparison to diseased rabbits. Three hundreds and sixty seven (65.5%) E. coli isolates were recovered from I 50 diseased chickens
A total number of E. coli recovered from apparently healthy rabbits and chickens were 22 (27.5%) and 18 (22.5%) respectively.
