DIAGNOSTIC VALUE OF SERUM ANTIVINICULIN ANTIBODIES AS A BIOMARKER FOR DIARRHEA PREDOMINANT IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME

Abstract


This study is a cross-sectional comparative study to validate the diagnostic value of antiviniculin antibodies in IBS-D patients.
Seventy patients with diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D) had been included in this study, based on the presence of ROME III criteria (Foundation Rome Guidelines, 2006)
Twenty healthy controls had been included in this study
o All patients (IBS-D) and healthy controls had been recruited from Ain shams university outpatient clinic and internal medicine department.
o Inclusion criteria for IBS-D patients had been based on ROME III criteria questionnaire.
o All healthy controls had been screened for previous history of GI diseases and active GI symptoms at the time of inclusion by detailed history.
o Subjects had been excluded from the study if they had a history of diabetes mellitus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), known pancreatic disease, drug abuse, cholecystectomy or appendectomy or recent use of antibiotics ( last month).
o We found from our results that there was a significant difference between the 2 groups regarding antiviniculin
antibodies which were more in diarrhea predominant IBS group.
o We found a highly significant difference between the two groups as regards ESR and CRP which were more in diarrhea predominant IBS group.
