MAnAGEMEnT OF FAILED FILTERinG BLEB AFTER SUBSCLERAL TRABECULECTOMY

Thanaa Helmi Mohammed;

Abstract

Successful bleb creation entails intraoperative adjustment of scleral flap resistance to ensure continuous flow of aqueous. The use of topical steroids and antimetabolities retards excessive bleb healing after surgery.

The rate of bleb failure has been reported to be as high as l 0-

20%.

Following surgery, the surgeon must follow his patient to manage filtration- related problems e.g bleb leak, choroidal detachment and supra choroidal hemorrhage, etc. as well as managing early bleb failure which might save the bleb if we recognize early signs of bleb failure and managing them. Later in the postoperative period clinical evaluation of the failing bleb and relieving the site of obstruction is important to prevent reoperation.

The aim of this sttidy is to assess the efficacy and safety of some of the techniques used for managing failed bleb with high lOP after subscleral trabeculectomy.

This study included 50 eyes of 44 patients with failed filtering bleb with high lOP after SST.
