DYNAMIC CHARACTERIZATION OF CARBON FIBER COMPOSITE CABLES FOR APPLICATION IN CABLE STAYED BRIDGES•
Hala Mohamed Gamal ElDin Abd El Hafez El Kady;
Abstract
During the last decade researchers have directed considerable effort in evaluating new composite materials, as traditional steel is no longer capable of matching the increased demands of lighter weight and higher strength in different engineering applications. Due to the unique properties of fiber composites such as high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance,..etc. They provide attractive alternative to conventional steel for application in many structures, including Cable Stayed Bridges (CSB). Advanced composite materials have received significant attention as the materials of choice for a variety of applications in repair and retrofit of structures. Research was directed in the last twenty years on understanding the static behavior, and failure modes of these materials.
