ECOLOGICAL - TOXICOLOGICAL STUDY ON HARMFUL AND USEFUL BIRDS IN EGYPTIAN CROPS
NAGAH HASSAN ESSA;
Abstract
The successful protection of a crop from excessive loss to birds in any particular situation will depend, to a large extent, on the quantity of the information available on that situation. Application of avicides must be made as accurately as possible on the target site. The objective of integrated bird management is to alleviate damage and not necessarily to destroy the pest species and must be safer for the environment and for non target species.
The present investigation throws light on the bird problem in the newly reclaimed area (El-Nubaria farms), toxic, repellent and anaesthetic effect of some avi- cides, the effect of certain conditions on avicide stabi 1 i ty, avicide residues in treated crops and birds and the biochemical response of birds to avicides.
