Abstract


In children with end stage renal disease under regular haemodialysis therapy, hypotensive episodes during haemodialysis is a major cardiovascular complication during the dialysis procedure.

. Nitric oxide is a gaseous free radical derived from L. argmme. It could be a cause of haemodialysis related hypotensive episodes as it was found to be increased in those patients by many investigators.

Our aim was to investigate the possible involvemen • of endogenous NO in acute hypotension during maintenance · haemodialysis, this study was conducted on 25 children; (16 males and 9 females) with end stage renal disease, lhei ages ranged from 6 to 18 years with mean of 14.88 ± 3.9, 01 regular haemodialysis therapy, following up at the Paediatric! Dialysis Unit, Children's Hospital, Ain Shams University. The studied group included. 13 normotensive patients (5 o ' them had hypotensive episodes) and 12 patients (7 of them ha hypotensive episodes). A group of I 0 healthy children wer · selected to serve as a control group.

All patients have undergone history taking witt special emphasis on aetiology of the disease, duration o ' disease, previous problems encountered during dialysi especially hypotensive episodes. Also patients hav • undergone careful clinical examination with special emphasi
