A BETTER UNDERSTANDING To PETROPHYSICAL PARAMETERS EVALUATION WITH A SUGGESTED APPROACH

WALID MOHAMED MABROUK;

Abstract

This study is mainly addressed to introduce three empirical equations for evaluating porosity (t/J), water saturation (Sw), and permeability (k). These three petrophysical parameters are almost the ultimate objectives of the log analysts that must be determined carefully, particularly when evaluating the potentiality of a reservoir under investigation.

Accordingly, This study came in three main chapters.

Chapter One describes the results of a study to accurately estimate the sonic-derived porosity (t/Js) from sonic logs, specifically in a formation
with known lithology.--This--equation,- -which--has-been--checked- -with--clean ------- _ lithology, takes into account the effect of matrix (L11mJ, fluid nature (L1tj), cementation exponent (m) and tortuosity factor (a), and is apparently
applicable to porous media. The comparison between measured and calculated porosity reflects the general usefulness of the proposed equation. In the case of clay content, the application of the equation should include the same correction procedures of the sonic log readings as those applied in usual
interpretation.
